Find two algebraic expressions for the area of each figure. First, regard the figure as one large rectangle, and then regard the figure as a sum of four smaller rectangles.

First, regard the figure as one large rectangle. Area of a rectangle = base x height. A = (x + 11) (x + 11) A = (x + 11)^2 then regard the rectangle as a sum of four smaller rectangles. Area = area of rect1 + a2 + a3 + a4 A = x^2 + 11x + 11x + 11^2 A = x^2 + 22x + 121

still confused

I feel really stupid right now

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Area of large rectangle = (r + 5) x (r + 5) Area of small rectangle = r x r = 5 x r = 5 x r = 5 x 5 ---------- Now just add those up. Try this.
