A basket contains 8 pieces of fruit: 3 apples, 3 oranges, and 2 bananas. Jonas takes a piece of fruit at random from the basket, and then Beth takes a piece at random. What is the probability that Jonas will get an orange and Beth will get an apple?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First off, the total number of fruit: 8 Probability of Jonas picking an orange: 3/8 Jonas doesn't put the orange back... So total fruit is now: 7 Probability of Beth getting an apple: 3/7 Since both events (Jonas getting an orange and Beth getting an apple) occur at the same time, we multiply the two probabilities: (3/8) * (3/7) = 9/56
