how to teach rhythm patterns for beginner students

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For what instrument? Drums?

OpenStudy (2yoututu11):

well u can start with something simple like claps first then move up from there :D

Have them feel their heartbeat. When they find it, have them tap their foot to it. This is a basic rhythm. Start with 4/4 time when teaching them inconsistent (syncopated) rhythms. 1 2 3 4... basic right, now try 1+2 3 4. You still have 4 beats in a measure, you just made the 1 and 2 into a longer note than the 3 and 4. When counting the rhythm, have them clap it and when they reach a whole or half note have them slide their hand up their arm with each connected beat. I hope this helps. :)
