you can use them almost everywhere...in a code, lists with number values(hoping that this is what u ask) can be used for mathematical(calculative) reasons or like helper lists for any other reasons.

In html, the numbers are just an appendage added by the browser when displaying an ordered list, the "<ol>" tag. Unordered lists, "<ul>" usually get a bullet (a solid circle).
