what are the uses of a hydrometer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

TO CHECK PURITY OF WATER

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it purity or relative density or both?

OpenStudy (shane_b):

A hydrometer is used to check the density of a liquid relative to water. It doesn't tell you how pure the liquid is.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks

OpenStudy (shane_b):

np :)

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

The hydrometer can be used to determine the natural sugar content of the "must." Hydrometers have many uses, but the most common use by wine, beer, and mead makers is determining the alcohol content of a homemade beverage.

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

ok @ShikhaDessai @Shane_B is also right:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

even u maybe right

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

i am absolutely right...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

welcome..for additional information plz go through http://home.iitk.ac.in/~ashishg/hydrometer.htm

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank u so much

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

welcome

OpenStudy (shane_b):

Yes, hydrometers are used for a lot of things but again, they are designed to compare the density of liquids...not the purity. A more comprehensive explanation of its design and uses can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrometer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thank u very much

both the answers are right
