find the values for a and b of the function 2x^3+ax^2+bx+36 when local max is x=-4 and local min is x=5

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

find the derivative of the function and equate to zero

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

- is your first step

OpenStudy (hba):

I think you can help her @cwrw238 .I just don't want to interfere.

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

not quite its 6x^2 + 2ax + b =0

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

ok hba ty

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

so its 6x^2 + 2ax + b = 0 now we know that zeros of this are -4 and 5 so if you plug in x = 5 and x = -4 into the above you will get 2 equations in a and b solving this system will then give you the values of a and b

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

sorry gotta go now - theres plenty of capable guys to help you further
