What if i stopped revolving the sun. Ok.. we know that both earth and moon are orbitting the sun at the same period same acceleration etc. I understand why moon is not pulled away by sun even though sun puts about 2 times greater force on it, than our earth.. My question is.. if i suddenly stopped earth revolving what happens to moon? earth will start falling towards the centre of the sun for sure.. but will moon keep orbiting the sun now? (with a period of 1 year ofcourse)

OpenStudy (dls):

Moon will continue to revolve around the sun without any change.

OpenStudy (qasim_ahmed):

well that needs some calculation , but for the first impression i'd have about that is that the moon will follow the earth to the center of the sun , because the attraction force of earth will be in the same direction of the earth's motion . that means the earth and the sun will bring it to the same direction !! the thing that really bothers me now is : when the earth goes inside the sun , certainly there will be no moon inside , so how the hell i'd spend the night without imagining my love's face in the moon ?? damn it would be so DISMAL :\
