Express in impartial fractions (12x^3 - 20x^2 + 31x - 49) / [ (x-1) (4x^2 + 9) ] Is it in the form A + B/(x-1) + C/(4x^2+9) Or A + B/(x-1) + Cx+D/(4x^2+9) And why? Thank you

hartnn (hartnn):

while separating for partial fraction, we see to it that degree of numerator is 1 less than degree of denominator. so for 4x^2+9, which is quadratic., the numerator will be linear, ax+b.
