The windows of a downtown office building are arranged so that each floor has six fewer windows than the floor below it. If the ground floor has 52 windows, how many total windows are on the first eight floors?

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Step 1 Read the problem carefully. Decide what unknowns are asked for and what facts are known.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I just.. I dont understand by reading the question what each number would stand for.

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

What is the question asking for?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how mny total windows are on the 8 floors

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

"...how many total windows are on the first eight floors?"

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

"... each floor has six fewer windows than the floor below it."

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

So every time you go up a floor you take away 6 windows because ".. each floor has six fewer windows than the floor below it." right?

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

You are given the fact that "..If the ground floor has 52 windows.."

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

And asked: "...how many total windows are on the first eight floors?"
