Factorise (x - y)^2 - 3(x - y)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you factor this: \(\large a^2-3a \) ???

OpenStudy (kuoministers):

Yes? a(a-3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

good. so now you know how to factor your orginal problem if you let a=(x-y). Just replace the "a" with "(x-y)"

OpenStudy (kuoministers):

Would the answer be (x - y)(x - y - 3)?
