Got one more type I have read on and don't understand 2x - 5y = -1 x -3y = -3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What are you trying to solve for?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Find a solution to each system by the subsitution method.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Try solving for y on the first equation and then replace what you found y to equal in the first equation into the second equation.. make sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think so I'll try it.... wish me luck

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Good luck(:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I might be too late here but the far easier method is to solve for x in the second equation and sub that into the first equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok thank you!!!! Ill try that way too

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea anytime you are using substitution and you have an equation where one of the variables has a coefficient of 1 then use that equation to solve for that variable that way you will not run into fractions as much.

Thank you!!! You have been so helpful!!!!
