if you solve by elimination you will get an inconsistent solution... meaning something like 0 = 8, which makes absolutely no sense, so therefore there is no solution.

If you look at the equations as lines, the answer to this kind of problem would be the point where both lines cross. These two would be parallel lines. They never cross. So there's no solution.

@Rudy or know they are parallel works as well, b/c remember a solution is the location in space that these two lines cross, and parallel lines never cross, so therefore no solution.
