Cosmic horizon.. I wanna know if i have understood the concept of cosmic horizon.. if i have.. then it means that every day the cosmic horizon is increasing right?? i mean after every year.. our cosmic horizon increases in radius by 1 light year.. correct?

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

I think it is a little more subtle than that. Here is a good video on it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLtNs4HCK1k

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yea I watched that after putting up the question :D.. so if we put the expansion of the universe into the account then the increase would be more!

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

yes - I believe so

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

up to a point

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so its all cause of that initial crazy expansion of the universe right?.. it must have been faster than the speed of light!

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

yes indeed - or at least "they" claim the expansion was at a rate that was faster than the speed of light. unfortunately we do not have any witnesses to testify towards this claim. :) remember there are many alternative theories to the "big bang".

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea yea.. i mean if the theory does not say that the expansion was at speeds greater than the light.. then the cosmological horizon won't make sense right.. then we should be able to see everything

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

yes - I believe your statement is correct
