(x-8)(x-3) expand and simplify

OpenStudy (anonymous):

multiply member to member

OpenStudy (anonymous):

does - and - equal +

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lets see an example (a + b) . (x + y) = = a . (x + y) + b . (x + y ) = ax + ay + bx + by

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x^2 - 3x - 8x + 24 -> x^2 - 11x + 24

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There's also a really simple proof as to why - and - is +, look it up if you're curious

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh thank, but why is the plus at the end of the working out?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhhh nvm i get it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah, np

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait actually i dont get it sorry :/ i thought - and - =+ but then why is there a - before the 11

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so you multiply x times - 3 = -3x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and then -8 times x = -8x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So you have -3x + -8x -> -3x - 8x -> -11x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhh okay thank you haha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah, i hope that makes sense :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so would (4x+7)(5x+2) be 20x+35x+8x+14?
