OpenStudy (vortish):

a tug boat goes 120 miles up stream in 20 hrs and the return trip takes 5 hrs find the speed of the tugboat with out a current

OpenStudy (anonymous):

D = RT

OpenStudy (vortish):

so if d=rt is that the same as 120=20x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup u just solve for rate in both equations. 120=5R and 120=20R then compare the answers and find rate without current

OpenStudy (vortish):

k thanks jb that makes sense

OpenStudy (vortish):

so you divide both equations by the so it would look like 120/5 and 120/20 to come up with R correct

OpenStudy (vortish):

so the first equation would have 24 and the second would be ten

OpenStudy (anonymous):

120/20= 6mph not 10

OpenStudy (vortish):

that would be 15 so the answer would be 120 miles at 15 mph

OpenStudy (anonymous):

actually because 120/5= speed without current (downstream) your answer would just be 24mph. Sorry

OpenStudy (vortish):

no problem and right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

medal? ;) @vortish
