please help me out on this one! Frank and Nora are driving home from Huntington station to Valley Cottage, a trip that takes approximately 110 minutes. Depending on traffic, their traveling time, t, could differ from the 110 minutes by less than 20 minutes. a. write inequality involving absolute value that could be used to express this information. b. solve the inequality from part a to find t.
\[\left| t-110 \right| < 20\]
not exactly sure what they want for the second part, maybe something like 90 < t < 130 ?
i guess you solve the inequality that you just set up
i pretty much got the same thing
yeah I think that's as far as you can go with it
i just didnt know how to set it up it was confusing
and its still is a bit confusing on the a part
what part is difficult? just figuring out where to start?
their traveling time, t, could differ from the 110 minutes by less than 20 minutes is confusing to set up
ohhhh i kinda got it now differ meaning subtractions and less than < i was confused because i thought they both were subtractions
right?
Would it have made more sense if it had said "by up to 20 minutes" instead of "by less than 20 minutes"?
im not sure i dont think so i would probably still be just as confused =s
haha, ok. Well when you read the problem, what is the maximum time the trip could take?
Thanks alot man really helped me out here
alright, hope it makes a bit more sense. If you have another similar problem I'd be happy to help walk you through it
nope thats it thanks a million =]
