Can anyone relate momentum and impulse in life? Please? I just need an idea. Just simple idea.
change of momentum is called as impulse. like when you hit a moving ball by a bat, momentum of a ball changes and in doing that you are applying a force on the ball for a time duration and this is what we called an impulse. mathematically it is force x time for which force act on the object or simply. so if the change in momentum is constant the product of force and time also remain constant. it means if time increases force decrease. this principle is being exploited in all the vechiel suspension that prevent us from jerk by increasing the time duration. or you can take example of cathcing a ball. when you move your hand backward while catching a ball you get less shock.
if i you see a ball moving.. and ask yourself the question HOW MUCH MOTION the ball has? what would be the answer??..the answer is MOMENTUM!!.. momentum is the quantity of motion.. when a ball hits another ball (maybe).. it can transfer momentum.. so what does momentum depend on?? think this way.. when an object comes and hits you how much velocity you gain? what does it depend on... it depends on a) its velocity ... b) mass.. it turns out it depends on both!!.. and not just one.. cause if you just one .. you stil have no idea what the quantity of motion is for example.. if i say a train came and hit you... what happens?? you ll ask me how fast the train came.. cause if it is JUST BARELY moving.. it doesn't have much motion!!.. similary if i said an object came at HIGHHHHH speed and hit you.. what happens.. again.. that depends on its mass.. cause if a mosquito comes and hits you high speed.. nothing happens!!.. so we decide momentum is mass times velocity!!!
so we package. mass and velocity together as momentum!!.. high momentum means high quantity of motion!.. so when something is coming to hit you.. no longer do you have to ask... whats its velocity and whats its mass?? you just ask.. whats its momentum!..
