OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):
just add these two equations
OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):
AD+DM=AM
x+5+2x-1=AM
OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):
can you solve this @KatieMO
OpenStudy (cwrw238):
no that is not correct the centroid D is twice as far from A as it from M

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):
AD = 2 ( DM )
x+5 = 2( 3x-5)
x+5 = 6x - 10
15 = 5x
x = 3
AM = AD + DM = x+5 + 3x-5 = 4x = 12
OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):
so answer is option D ) 12
OpenStudy (anonymous):
You're SUREE?
OpenStudy (cwrw238):
where did you get 3x-5 from?
OpenStudy (cwrw238):
surely
its x + 5 = 2(2x - 1)
x + 5 = 4x - 2
8 = 3x
x = 8/3
AM = 8/3 + 5 + 16/3 - 1
= 4 + 24/3
= 12

as it happened you got the correct answer!!
OpenStudy (anonymous):
D is the correct answer ?
OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):
you are wrong.. @cwrw238 5+2=7 not 8
OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):
its x + 5 = 2(2x - 1)
x + 5 = 4x - 2
7 = 3x
x = 7/3
AM = 7/3 + 5 + 14/3 - 1
= 4 + 21/3
