well i believe that energy decreases as it moves up the pyramid so i would have to say A

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A. There is a loss in energy available to the organisms higher up on the food pyramid. Imagine this: A lettuce plant gets it's energy directly from the sun, and it's loaded with energy. A rabbit comes along and eats it. Lots of energy is lost as heat, so the rabbit doesn't get 100% of the energy the plant had. A hawk then eats the rabbit, and lots of energy is again lost as heat. So the hawk didn't get nearly as much energy as the rabbit got from the plant, or that the plant got from the sun. That's why only a few large predators exist now; there simply isn't enough energy to sustain them and they die out.
