Let me explain for you what "homologous chromosomes" are. Homologous chromosomes are two chromosomes that are about the same length, and have their gene types in the same places. In other words, if two chromosomes look like one another, in length, and gene location, then they are HOMOLOGOUS with one another. The word "homologous" is kind of a way to describe the relationship between two chromosomes that look similar.
