Today Cape Cod is nearly out of cod. From haddock to flounder, many North Atlantic fish stocks are at all-time lows, decimated by overfishing. Yet inside as well as outside the sanctuary, nets still seine the ocean day and night. Trawl nets bump along the bottom, tearing loose sedentary marine life. Draggers rake up scallops and clams with hydraulic equipment, sucking the sediment away.
