y² + 2y + 5 for y = –5 can anyone explain to me how to solve please

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just substitute -5 for each 'y' you see in the equation: \[(-5)^{2} + 2(-5) + 5\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so would it be like 25+-10+5=20
