15 is 15 and always is 15. It's constant. A letter is used to represent a number that you don't know. It can change to whatever is assigned to it. It varies. It's a variable. x is a variable. In this case it's the only variable. A coefficient is a number that is multiplying that variable. In 8x, 8 is multiplying the x. 8 is the coefficient.
