why not try some simple numbers? if sam's salary was 100: s=100 what is s - 0.25*s ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Uhm. 25%

OpenStudy (phi):

It is 100 - 0.25*100 what is 0.25 times 100? it is 25 100-25 is 75 but we have to be careful. what if sam's salary were 1000. ? then we would get 1000- 0.25*1000= 1000- 250= 750

OpenStudy (anonymous):

75%?

OpenStudy (phi):

It looks like if sam's salary was 100, g's is 75 if sam's is 1000, g's is 750 we can change g's salary to a percent of sam's: 1000* 0.75 is 750 and 0.75 is the same as 75/100 or 75%
