I need help substituting numbers for the Quadratic Equations
1.Substitute the data provided for speed (v) and starting heights (s) into their proper positions in the formula y = –16x2 + vx + s and write the equation corresponding with each motor in the space provided below. Then identify the a, b, and c values for each where indicated. (6 points total, 2 points each) The equation for motor A is: a = b = c = The equation for motor B is: a = b = c = The equation for motor C is: a = b = c =
I just know that a = -16.
b = v c = s
Motor A- 190 ft per sec Motor B- 210 ft/ sec Motor C- 230 ft/ per sec.
Forgot to include that.
oh - right - i was so confused about the 3 motors
well for A, b = 190, for B b = 210, and for C b = 230
So for C, is it just 0?
?
Oh, and 1 more thing, how do u find the vertex of these equations?
Oh, I got the first question...never mind! It is just zero. :)
I just don' know how to find the vertex.
you need to convert the formula into vertex form for example if you have the equation y = 2x^2 - 8x find vertex form as follows: y = 2(x^2 - 4x) y = 2(x - 2)^2 - 4 the vertex is at x = 2 ( 2 comes from (x - 2))
So, that is how you do it? One more thing, x intercepts?
For the vertex's I keep getting negatives, are u supposed to?
the vertex's can be negatives yes for the above example x coordinate of the vertex is 2 and y coordinate is found by plugging in x=2 into the expression y = 2(2)^2 - 8(2) = 8 - 16 = -8 so vertex is at (2,-8)
the x intercepts are found by equating y = 0 y = 2x^2 - 8x = 0 and you solve for x haven't you got any values for s?
My teacher just said to put 0 as s. :) Thx for ur help, I got it now! |dw:1354059985140:dw|
