Starting from 1.5 miles away, a car drives toward a speed checkpoint and then passes it. The car travels at a constant rate of 53 miles per hour. The distance of the car from the checkpoint is given by d = |1.5 – 53t|. At what times is the car 0.1 miles from the checkpoint? Calculate your answer in seconds.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It will be at 2 different times. The second time is when 53t - 1.5 = 0.1 The first time is when 1.5 - 53t = 0.1 So, the secondtime is at t = 0.0301887 The first time is at t = 0.026415

BTW, "t" here is in pparts of an hour, so you have to multiply each by 3600 because there are 3600 seconds in an hour.

I do not have those as my answer choses

Do you want to see my choices????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Isn't one of your choices approximately 108.68 seconds? Maybe rounded? It should be there! Yes, I'd like to see the choices. The other answer should be 95.09 or close to that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

95.1s and 108.7s 10.2s and 101.9s 108.7s and 10.2s 95.1s and 10.2s

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, right there! the first one. It's what I have in my posts. Remember, you had to multiply the first answers by 3600.

OK thanks for the help
