A limit is basically the value of something that approaches something else (as simple as I can put it).

limit, i wont define it, but i will tell you something about limits. Limit knows this, knowing the function value of a point of a function is useless, it is not applicable in real life. but knowing what happens, the behavior of the function as it moves towards a point, that makes some sense. Limit, is the backbone of calculus.
