find the midpoint of the line segement with end points (-8, 4) and (-2, -6)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Use the midpoint formula. \[((x1+x2)\div2,(y1+y2)\div2)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you call point 1 (-8,4) and point 2 (-2,-6) then you find the x-value of the midpoint by adding the x-value of point 1 with the x-value of point 2 and dividing that sum by 2. You do the same to find the y-value of the midpoint but with the two y-values. so: (-8 + -2) / 2 = x-value of midpoint; (4 + -6) / 2 = y-value of midpoint. Therefore, midpoint is: (-10/2, -2/2) which is (-5,-1)
