Which of the following is not a step used when graphing the equation y =1 over 2x - 3 using the a. Plot the y-intercept (0, -3). b.Draw a line through the two points. c.Count up 1 and right 2 from the y-intercept. d.Plot the x-intercept (6, 0).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@JakeV8 can you please help me ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is the end of the question? It looks cut off at the end after the words "using the"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Also, is it graphing the equation\[y = \frac{ 1 }{ 2 }x - 3\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

slope-intercept method? thats the ending sorry!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you wrote "y =1 over 2x - 3" but it's hard to tell what is over what.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, slope intercept makes sense, thanks :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When you graph using slope intercept, here are the steps: 1) plot the y intercept point... here, it's (0,-3) 2) use the slope to find another point... so here slope is 1/2, so you go up 1 and over 2. 3) Connect the two points. The answer in (d) is not part of the process for slope intercept method. Confusingly though, it would work... it's just not part of THIS method.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Since they specifically asked you about the slope intercept method, I looked it up to be sure... there are different ways to graph, so the purpose of this question apparently is to make sure you know the steps of this method. Here's where I looked it up if you want to take a look: http://www.algebra.com/algebra/homework/Graphs/Graphing-by-Slope-Intercept-Method.lesson

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i'm a little bit confused! loll ...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Confused about which part?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is the answer c ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No In the slope intercept method of graphing, here are the steps and how they match up to your answers: Step 1 is answer A a. Plot the y-intercept (0, -3). (It uses the y-intercept, so that's part of the name of the graphing method) Step 2 is answer C c.Count up 1 and right 2 from the y-intercept. (It also uses slope... up 1 and right 2 is the slope of 1/2... that's the other part of the name of the graphing method) Step 3 is answer B: b.Draw a line through the two points. This is the last step... Answer D is not part of the method, so that's your answer... they asked which step is NOT part of the method... Answer D is not part of the slope intercept method. d.Plot the x-intercept (6, 0).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhh okay i see it now! i was a little confused! but thanks!!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In short, it's D. But above shows why... the other 3 answers are the steps in the slope intercept method... D is not part of the method.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's not a very good question in my opinion :) You would be better off learning to graph than memorizing the steps like this... oh well :) Glad to help, either way.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the end of the question is suppose to be using the slope intercept method
