What is the sales tax on a $50 purchase in a state with a 7.5% tax rate? A. $3.75 B. $7.50 C. $37.50 D. $53.75

To find the percent of a number, multiply the number by the percent, then divide by 100. So: 50 * 7.5 / 100

OpenStudy (amistre64):

which is the usual setup yes; but it can also be derived by knowing that a percent is simply a division by 100 spose you have a number: n , then n/100 = 1% to find 7.5%, just multiply 1% by 7.5 7.5 * n/100 :)
