1. A rope pulling a sled is sloped at 15° upward at the point of contact. The tension in the rope is 50.0 N. What is the horizontal component of the force?

T_x = Tcos(15deg) = 50cos(15deg) You basically draw a triangle where the angle is from the standard x axis to the standard y axis or, put differently, the angle is 15 degrees from east towards north and the 50N is the hypotenuse and the legs of the triangle are the x and y components. I found the leg that (using trigonometry) that is representative of the x component.

Pretty much \[Fx=\cos \emptyset * F\] so just do 50 times the cos15.
