A river is rising at a rate of 3 inches per hour. If the river rises 2 feet, it will exceed flood stage. How long can the river rise before it floods?

then 2 ft = 24 in
if the rises 3 in ---------> 1 hour
24 in --------- > x hour

3 x = 24 (1 ) x = 8 hours
