Just wondering what are the things generally taught over the whole of chemistry?

its a lot of math & if you dont get one thing in one lesson dont expect to get in inother lessons because it will come back just more complex

percent composition, polyatomic ions, lewis dot structure, balancing equations, types of reactions a lot of things

those are basic stoichiometric endeavours, there is much much much more to chemistry. Math is the basis for everything in any pure science, you can't avoid it.
