what is n type semiconductor

OpenStudy (ghazi):

conductors that are doped with pentavalent impurities are n type , which means adding extra number of electrons

OpenStudy (ghazi):

by adding element that has five valance electrons

Basically, an n-type semiconductor is an intrinsic semiconductor doped by a pentavelent impurities. Pentavalent impurities are substances, usually elements with 5 valence electrons. An n-type semiconductor also facilitates conduction by having an excess electron. That is why its called n-type, because it has excess electron, and therefore, has a negative charge. N-type :)
