Quick c question:

cc $arg > /dev/null

When I use this command, I don't care about the output, I just care if it compiles or not

Yet for example, it doesn't compile I still get errors like that output, when all output is supposed to go to /dev/null and discarded

/cs/local/bin/ld:aFile: file format not recognized; treating as linker script
/cs/local/bin/ld:aFile:2: syntax error
