sin^2x = 3cos^2x

"Solve the equation"

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

I'd do this, first: \(\sin^{2}(x) = 1 - \cos^{2}(x)\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright, I got to cosx=1/2, can you help me with the next step please?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

That can't be right. \(1 - \cos^{2}(x) = 3\cos^{2}(x)\). This leads to \(4\cos^{2}(x) - 1 = 0\) FACTOR! \((2\cos(x) - 1)(2\cos(x) + 1) = 0\) Looks like more solutions than you found.
