OpenStudy (buttermequeasy):

In hopes of encouraging healthier snacks at school, Paul brought in a tray of carrot sticks and apple slices to share. The tray had a total of 82 snacks, of which 50% were carrot sticks. How many carrot sticks did Paul bring?

OpenStudy (lilg132):

82/2 ?

OpenStudy (lilg132):

50% means half of something

OpenStudy (lilg132):

but if it wasn't 50% the way to work it out would be 82/100 = 0.82 (this is one percent (1%) of the number) to find out how much 50% would be you would have to multiply that by 50 0.82 * 50 = 41
