Think of a friend or teacher or pet or parent (someone who you know very well). Try to write down a list of eight objects that remind you of that person or pet. Now try to turn the list into a poem. my frends name is mrs. carolyn here is my list i composed 1. heart 2. coleslaw/cookout her cloeslaw is the best 3. the wii love playing games 4. eyeliner it brings out her blue eyes 5. parties 6. wolves she loves them 7. dream catchers 8. music she loves country music please i need help to turn this list into a metaphor poem any help wouldgreatly be appreciated
Write about her as though she's a wolf, like one of the outcasts or young pups in the wolf pack (there's ur metaphor). She's playful (wii metaphor), dreamy (starcatchers), she'd rather have fun than take orders from Alpha male (parties), and she stares anyone who crosses her path down with her steely blue eyes. Idk about the music or coleslaw. :)
so can you help me put 2 more thing in there instead of the coleslaw and music i would greatly appreciate any help with this and let me see what the final poem looks like im trying to help my nephew out i havent been in school in 20 years i dont know how to write poetry
Ok, how beautiful she is? and how smart she is? Metaphor: her sleek silver fur is envied by all in the pack....She waited patiently for her prey, unlike the other wolves who would tear through the forest noisily after theirs.
Also you have to talk about her heart right, so something like she shared her meat with one of the youngsters or elders who was too weak to catch anything...
she is very beautiful and very smart
yay me lol
ok so how would you put all that together
Well, I would try to tell it like a story, but obviously in verse. If you can fit some rhymes in there, that'd be cool, but you don't have to. Did his teacher give him any specifics?
no specifics just a poem with a metaphor and has to be 8 lines and by the way good guess about the blue eyes because she has beautiful blue eyes
lol, just going off what you put on the list--no telepathy there haha Ok so, let me think of something
What grade is this again? Just trying to think of what kinds of poems he'd know how to do
8th grade he keeps an a average in class just has trouble when it comes to poetry and he writes about mrs. carolyn all the time which is the person the poem is about and by the way she loves what you were talking about with the wolves
Aw that's so sweet. I love poetry haha, but I totally understand. So he knows about rhyme schemes right? Like at the end of a line?
or even internal
no he doesn't
Ok, so it's just like at the end of each line, there may be a rhyme, and maybe you have a pattern. Like the first and second lines rhyme and the third and fourth lines rhyme, or the first and third lines rhyme. There are a lot of different combinations and you can even have rhymes with a line, like the middle of a line rhymes with the end. I have to go for about 10 minutes or so, but if you would like, I can keep helping you with this. :)
I would greatly appreciate any help you an give me with this thank you very much
when you get back just let me know ill keep checking back
Ok gotcha!
are you back yet
yeah sorry, had to move some furniture around haha! Ok so has he gotten any ideas for the poem?
she loves wolves, dreamcatchers, indians
she is very beautiful, blue eyes, very wise,
So those are the two lines he has so far? It's a bit different from my idea about the extended metaphor of her actually being compared to a wolf herself. Remember you need to use a metaphor in this assignment: a figure of speech in which an implied comparison is made between two unlike things that actually have something important in common. Here's an example of one you've probably heard before: Life is a journey, travel it well.
no thats just ideas he has
Ok. Gotcha. So does he want to do the metaphor of the wolf?
i would like to see what you came up with in a poem that sounded really good yes that is the one we would like to do what about adding the moon and feathers into the poem if you can please
How about he and I write it together? I'll try to help him along.
ok no problem
Ok, so I think this would be cool if you write it in sort of narrative (story) form. Stories usually have an order, so what do you think should be the first event in the story?
Try to include one of the traits.
Like do you want to start off with her as a young wolf pup or a grown-up outcast from her pack?
hi im david i appreciate you helping my aunt out
can we start out with her as a young wolf pup
Whatever you would like, David! :) You are the poet, I'm just your guide.
So, let's say she's a playful young pup, right? Try making that trait into your first line.
Oh, and think of how you're going to refer to Miss Caroline, as "she", "she-wolf", "the wolf", whatever you think.
She is a playful young wolf pup
Ok, very good :) Now the second line could be how she's always daydreaming. Do you want these lines to rhyme? You can still have a rhyme scheme if you don't rhyme just yet.
would that be the metaphor
Definitely, you are comparing Miss Caroline to a wolf pup without actually saying it (like a simile, with "like" or "as")
Try the second line now. :)
She is playful and dreamy
So this is what you have so far: She is a playful young pup, She is playful and dreamy,
She'd rather have fun than obey the alpha males Her steel blue eyes stares anyone who crosses her Her sleek silver fur is envied by all She waits patiently for her prey
Great stuff, now you need 2 more lines.
She shared her prey with the weakest elder,
can you help me with a line having to do with the moon
Her blue eyes glaring in the moonlight, She shared her prey with the weakest elder.
Some things that come to mind for me are comparisons with her "fur" AKA Miss Caroline's hair or her eyes. You could say her fur shown like the moon or her eyes glinted in the moonlight.
Maybe you could say her heart shines like the light of the moon.
She is a playful young wolf pup, She is playful and dreamy, She'd rather have fun than obey the alpha males, Her steel blue eyes stares anyone who crosses her, Her sleek silver fur is envied by all, She waits patiently for her prey, She shared her prey with the weakest elder. Her heart shines like the light of he moon.
Very good! You just wrote a poem!!! :) Now you can leave it just the way it is, or I could help you come up with some synonyms to rhyme it. Up to you! Good either way.
I think its good just like this is there a way i can get ahold of you to let you know how i did i really appreciate all your help
I understand it a little better now
You could send me a message on here. I'm glad I could help. I know it's hard sometimes to get the juices flowing and get out of that writer's block. And see, it wasn't even that hard once you got started! One suggestion on line 4, change "stares" to "stare down"
And see, you've used both metaphors and similes! :)
thanks that sounds better
No problem!
have a good night thanks again for all your help She is a playful young wolf pup, She is playful and dreamy, She'd rather have fun than obey the alpha males, Her steel blue eyes stare down anyone who crosses her, Her sleek silver fur is envied by all, She waits patiently for her prey, She shared her prey with the weakest elder. Her heart shines like the light of the moon.
are you still here
Yes, sorry. One more thing, are you going to tell her who the poem is about before you give her the poem? If not, change the first she to Caroline. :)
yes i have to tell her who i chose so i need to figure out a title for the poem
How about "My Friend, the Wolf"?
I made a change to line 5 tell me what you think She is a playful young wolf pup, She is playful and dreamy, She'd rather have fun than obey the alpha males, Her steel blue eyes stare down anyone who crosses her, Her sleek silver-white fur is envied by all, She waits patiently for her prey, She shared her prey with the weakest elder. Her heart shines like the light of the moon.
that title sounds great thanks
Awesome! Oh, do you want to change "prey" in line 7 to "meat"?
or food?
“My Friend, the Wolf” She is a playful young wolf pup, She is playful and dreamy, She'd rather have fun than obey the alpha males, Her steel blue eyes stare down anyone who crosses her, Her sleek silver-white fur is envied by all, She waits patiently for her prey, She shared her food with the weakest elder. Her heart shines like the light of the moon. finished poem what do you think
I think it's very good! Did you notice that you used playful in the 1st and 2nd lines? Maybe try a synonym in the second.
I love the last line :)
what do you suggest
She is a starry dreamer. OR She is merry and dreamy. OR She is a spirited dreamer. Whatever you think. http://thesaurus.com/browse/playful?r=76&src=ref&ch=the
so my list of eight things can be 1. young wolf pup 2. heart/moon 3. wii/ playful 4. blue eyes 5. parties 6. dream catcher/ dreamy 7. fur /siver-white 8. food
“My Friend, the Wolf” She is a playful young wolf pup, She is a spirited dreamer, She'd rather have fun than obey the alpha males, Her steel blue eyes stare down anyone who crosses her, Her sleek silver-white fur is envied by all, She waits patiently for her prey, She shared her food with the weakest elder. 1. (because she likes wolves) 8. kind That sounds fabulous! :)
1. young wolf pup 2. heart/moon 3. wii/ playful 4. blue eyes 5. parties 6. dream catcher/ dreamy 7. fur /siver-white 8. kind
5. smart 7. hair is blonde? / silver-white
yes it is blonde but we like the silver you talked about
Yeah, so on the list remembering her blonde hair made you want to write the metaphor of her "silver-white" fur.
1. young wolf pup 2. heart/moon 3. wii/ playful 4. blue eyes 5. smart 6. dream catcher/ dreamy 7. fur /siver-white fur 8. kind like this
Well, say you thought of her hair. The fur represents her hair in the metaphor.
46 crystal_sky 01. young wolf pup 2. heart/moon 3. wii/ playful 4. blue eyes 5. smart 6. dream catcher/ dreamy 7. fur / silver-blonde hair 8. kind like this
That's fine. :) So are you all set to turn this in?
yes thank you very much for all your help i greatly appreciate it ill let you know what grade i get have a good night and thank you very much
