Construct both an ungrouped and a grouped frequency distribution for the data given below: 124 115 111 112 118 123 121 116 114 113 118 110 110 112 116 118 120 115 120 110
I know I have to organize them from least to greatest right?
yes. for the grouped frequency distribution, how many intervals are needed?
110,110,110,111,112,112,113,114,115,115,116,116,118,118,118,120,121,123,124
I am going to say 4?
|dw:1354405916219:dw|
is there any formula for this number of intervals?
I don't follow if there is I can't remember what the formula is?
the general rule is to use not too few and not too many intervals. so 4 is okay me.
just make sure that the low interval must include 110 and the high interval must include 124. also, equal intervals are preferred over unequal intervals, particularly to ratio type of data.

does that look right?
nope. the sizes are different. try 110-113, 114-117,118-121, 122-125
okay it will be the numbers though right?
X F ----------------- 110 - 113 7 114 - 117 5 118 - 121 5 122 - 125 2
That looks better
=)
there are 20 data points in your given, but you only have a total of 19 in your grouped frequency distribution.
