How would i divide this? Someone please help explain

OpenStudy (bakonloverk):

divide wht

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\frac{ y^2-y-12 }{ y^2-6y+8}\div \frac{ y^2+2y-15 }{ y^2-7y+10 }\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(y-5)/(y+5)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how did you do that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You factor the first one: (y-4)(y+3)/(y-4)(y-2)=(y+3)/(y-2) #2: (y-2)(y-5)/(y+5)(y-3) when you divide the fraction, you flip the denominator and numerator. And then you simplifying become what i wrote you at first.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do you mean when you factored (y-4)(y+3)/(y-4)(y-2)=(y+3)/(y-2) as the 1st one? why is there an equal sign?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you word this? sorry this is confusing
