Find the values of x and y in each figure- the picture of what they look like is attached
Help? Anyone..... please
I figured out the second one, please help me on the first
The first picture is a picture of what kind of triangle?
Uhmm... I don't knoww D:
Well do you see the two dashes or tick marks on each side of the triangle?
Yeah :3
@zonazoo
Do you know what that means?
That the sides are congruent? :3
Yup, that is correct... and what kind of triangle has two congruent sides?
Uhmmm... isoscles? I think...
Yup... correct again :-)... and an Isosceles triangle not only tells us that the two sides are congruent, but it also tells us that the two base angles are congruent... so if one of the base angles is given, then the other base angle is exactly the same.
So x is 40?
correct yet again... :-)... and now since we know two of the angles in a triangle can you find the 3rd?
:D I'm probably going to get this one wrong but I think y would be 100 because triangles are supposed to equal 180 but it doesn't look big enough D:
well that is again correct... look at you, geometry is easy as can be... but you are right, that angle y does not look like an obtuse angle at all, but ill give you a hint... never never never assume anything from the picture... b/c the book, test, and state tests often draws pictures that are not to scale... and that is because they want to see if you can do the math, not guess by looking at it.
