if the angles were bisected, then the two triangles drawn above (that fit in the rectangle) would have to be congruent by the SAS property but this is only possible when all sides of a rectangle are congruent....which only happens when the figure is a square

you are correct all squares are rectangles, but not all rectangles are squares
