Please help a. Find the surface area of the cube. b. Find the volume of the cube. Cube: http://i1255.photobucket.com/albums/hh639/zigzagoon20001/Question3Cube.jpg

OpenStudy (callisto):

What is the area of one surface of the cube?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't know.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

think

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't know how to do this.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how would you calculate suqare meters of your room?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't know, how would you do that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you would multiply width by length, no?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, and how do I figure out the width or the length? It only says "4x-5" underneath the cube.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|dw:1354440210511:dw| right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't know if that's right. If you say so. I don't know that much about this topic. So what would the width or length be in this situation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to figure an area of a rectangular region, you multiply it's length by it's width

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well myko just told me how, but I do not know the width or length is of this rectangle.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so , imagine you have a square (length = width) |dw:1354440386801:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm sorry, this is all very confusing to me.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is, actualy, one of the faces of the cube. To find total surface area, just count how many faces it has.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm assuming it has 6 faces, right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you right, so total surface area will be 6 times the area of one of the faces

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in your case: |dw:1354440579144:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

got it?

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Still confused?

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

The definition of area reads: area: The area of a region is the number of square units it contains.

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

In this question you can not calculate a numerical answer because you don't know what the value of x is. You can only give the equations: surface area = 6(4x-5)^2 volume = (4x-5)^3
