You need a combination of 5 out of 8 choices. A combination is where order doesn't matter. Let's say your players are named A, B, C, D, E, F, G, and H. Choosing A, B, C, D, E is the same as choosing E, A, B, C, D. The formula for the number of combinations is: \[C(n,k) = \frac{ n! }{ (n - k)!k! }\] where n is number of choices taken k at a time. Here you have 8 choices taken 5 at a time.
