jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

do you have geogebra?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

to go from R to Q, you go to the left 4 units and then go up 4 units. the scale from UVWX to PQRS is 1:2 (basically everything is doubled) So to go from W(8, -4) to V, which is unknown, you go 8 units to the left and 8 units up

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so use this rule to get W(8, -4) ----> (x-8, y+8) -----> (8-8, -4+8) -----> V(0, 4)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jim_thompson5910 Oh ok! That makes sense, because it's ratio is 1:2 right?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yes everything gets doubled, even the rule to go from point to point (using the idea of slope)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

left 4 units and then go up 4 units doubles to 8 units to the left and 8 units up

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jim_thompson5910 Oh awesome! Thank you very much! This helped a ton. It didn't make much sense to me in my geometry class.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

all you need to do is measure RS (which is 10 units) and WX (which is 20 units) this is the indication that everything gets double

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

doubled*

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so that's the kind of thing you look for in "similar" problems (like similar as in proportional)
