Calculus help??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

b) if MVT applies, find each value of c in the invterval (a,b) that satisfies the equation f(x)ln(x-1) [2,4]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

MVT does apply

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well i don't exactly understand finding f'c. i know that it's f'c = f(b) - f(a) / b-a so it's f(4) - f(2) - 4-2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i see that you took the derivative of the f(x) function

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep, that's the derivative, which is function for the slope. it should at least one c so that the slope be equal to the line go through 2 endpoints

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh yea, secant = tangent?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do you mean by that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to prove that at c = 2/ln3 +1, the instantaneous is equal to the avg rate

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well you set the secant slope answer to the derivative to find c

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you're right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ooooohhh ok thanks!!!
