for what value of x would the quotient (4x2 + 3x -5)/(x+3) not make sense A.3 B.-1 C.-3 D.0

OpenStudy (cj7529):

-3, that would make the denominator -3+3=0, and you cant divide by zero

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how would you figure this out

OpenStudy (cj7529):

@erica5973 did you understand????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not really

OpenStudy (cj7529):

(4x2 + 3x -5)/(x+3) the question asks which value of x doesnt make sense. The answer is minus 3 because, the bottom half of the fraction (the denominator) would equal zero if x=-3. 1/5 is bigger than 1/3 which is bigger than 1/2. If you imagine dividing by a smaller and smaller number, the fraction gets bigger and bigger. So when you divide by zero, the fraction is infinately big, which doesnt make sense
