how to find the degree of a polynomial. Need help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

somebody tell me how you find it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The degree is the number of the exponent for the largest exponent in the expression.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you give me an example

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Write out a polynomial and we can discuss it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for example (2x+1=3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There is only one "x" term, which is 2x, which has an implied exponent of "1" on it. So, this is of degree "1", which is a straight line.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So how did you find the the degree

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You look at all terms that have an "x" in them and you take the highest exponent.
