Solve the following system using matrices. 4a-3b+5c=2 2a+4b-7c=20 a-3b+8c=-13

OpenStudy (anonymous):

use rref of \[\left[\begin{matrix} 4 & -3 &5 &2 \\ 2 & 4 & -7 & 20 \\ 1 &-3 & 8& -13\end{matrix}\right]\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

don't you use that and then take out the very right column and use the diagonal way..?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you can use that manually method of you want. I'm more used to to row operations to deal with matrices.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do you do that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are you talking about gaussian elimination?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i don't know what the actual name is called

OpenStudy (anonymous):

row operations ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Row_operations )

OpenStudy (anonymous):

given matrices Ax = b reducing A into row echelon form or reduced row echelon form?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ya, that's it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is that the method you are asked to use?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the question posted said "Solve the following system using matrices" so i would think either way works.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no we learned something completely different

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but i didn't understand it
