I've been staring at this question for a while.

We can use a process of elimination first:

B can't be true, because food an air pass through the pharynx.
But food definitely doesn't pass through the larynx.

C can't be true, because it's the larynx that contains the vocal chords,
not the pharynx.

So it had to be either A or D.

And I don't think D is true,
because the pharynx doesn't DIRECTLY connect to the bronchi.
I do think it's connected to the bronchi by the trachea.
